English II EOC/STAAR
In early April, sophomores will be required to take and pass the state assessment, STAAR. Students will be asked to read, analyze, interpret, respond, revise, edit, and compose in efforts to pass the state minimum score. Throughout the year, students will be challenged complete all of those expectations with the basic curriculum. Very seldomly will students be stopped and asked to test in the manner of the EOC/STAAR testing situations. The curriculum will challenge the students without having to focus very much on the style of the actual test. We DO NOT "teach the test" in English II. Tutoring will become available second semester specifically for STAAR purposes.

SAT/ACT Standardized Testing
In order for students to enter in most colleges, a standardized test must be taken. In the classroom, rigor is a part of the curriculum to not only take and pass the state mandated tests but also the college entrance exams such as the SAT and ACT. The State of Texas also is implementing the TSI, a test all seniors will take if PSAT and SAT/ACT scores do not meet a minimum requirement, to prove they are college ready. Students will receive more information about the TSI as an 11th grader.
SAT Vocabulary is given during class for the particular strategy tested on the SAT as well as a writing strategy to help build the students' writing styles. See the Power Plus Vocabulary! tab for the vocabulary lists given to the students.
